Another Minnesota activity

frozen lake
On my way home from work today I wanted to drive around a lake to get some photos. I had my new 70-300mm lens on my camera, which I will just call my car lens because it offers a far enough focal length that I don't have to get out of my car!! :-) talk about lazy photography, or maybe just cold weather photography. Hey it was a whopping 5 degrees today!!!

So I drove around this lake and was amused by all the ice fishermen out and about on a Tuesday afternoon.

The whole 'frozen over lake' concept was something new to Kyle and I when we moved up here two and a half years ago. I just couldn't believe that the lakes freeze over enough to drive on. But sure enough, it is a random act up here, that continues to happen day after day, year after year.

And every year, about late March early April, we hear on the news about some hot shot that took their car out past the 'safe time' and lost their car through the ice. Will they ever learn?

Now I'm not sure why they feel the need to wear camaflouge or bright orange when they are in the middle of a lake surrounded by white... hmmm maybe it's a guy thing.

Last year Kyle and I walked across a lake near our house, but we still have yet to ice fish. I'm not so sure about ice fishing. There is not a lot of movement like there is in cross-country skiing. I think the cold would get to me a little if I was just sitting there.
