Michigan Drone Video

A little choppy... I'm still learning this drone movement, mainly fly it for the still photo taking abilities. But a video for fun. I like when you can see the kids playing, they look like little ants.

Michigan: Day 4 last day - No Moose Sightings

Last day, we woke up, did breakfast played some games before getting everything packed up and the van loaded up for the drive home. There was a cheese factory we had seen signs for on the way there (just an hour from home in Wisconsin) but we wanted to stop there on our way home.

When we drove to L'Anse that first full day, we were looking at a map and a local helped point out the most likely place to see a moose. It was southwest of our campsite so we made note to drive that way on our way home. We drove to an area and kept our eyes peeled. We did find a pull off that went back into the woods, hopped out to get some drone footage and see if we could see anything. No such luck.

We made it to the Michigan/Wisconsin border and stopped for lunch. It was a later lunch and we realized the time and that the cheese factory closed at 5:00! Our GPS put us arriving at 4:45... so Kyle busted butt to get us there and we arrived just before 4:30!

Got some cheese, kids got ice cream and we made our way home - just another hour drive. It sure felt good to shower and sleep in our own beds that night!

Michigan Day 3: Marquette

Friday morning was much the same as the day before. We woke up, made a fire to bring some warmth back to the cabin - it actually wasn't very cold. The fire kept the place REALLY warm at night, almost too warm to start, but then once it died off in the night it started to get cooler. We ate some food then headed east to drive into Marquette, Michigan - also on Lake Superior shore.

While the kids played at the park, we filled up our water jugs and I flew the drone for some amazing shots!

Then we gathered the troops and went for a walk over toward the light house. I got the drone flying again and attempted a family photo, but at that very moment a bee stung Thomas's ear, he's not in these photos cuz he was sitting down.

The clear water is beautiful.

We couldn't get down the boardwalk to the end, there was a gate right at the light house that was locked and only available when it was open for tours. So we went over toward the bay and the kids played down by the rocks.

We left this area and Kyle found this great hiking spot about a 10 minutes drive in. Since our campsite was so snowy we didn't get in any camping around the state park we were staying at, so it was really nice to get this quickie in.

We had heard about pasties and decided we needed to try one. We got one and split it six ways. It was good and reminded us of bierocks from Wichita.

Had to pick up this mug :-) adding it to our camping collection because the current mugs we have the opening is too wide and our coffee filter thing that is suppose to sit on top a mug just falls through.

We made it back, and before we got dinner going I flew the drone just to attempt to see if there were any moose around us along the river. No such luck. But you can see how much snow had melted since our first day.

We made dinner, kids played games, and we decided NOT to build a fire for bedtime. It was warming up outside and the past two nights we had all been REALLY hot at bed so we layered up and went without. I think this was the best night's sleep for all.

Michigan Trip: Day 2 - Drive to L'Anse & Point Abbaye

After a warm night we awoke not that cold. That little wood stove kept our cabin pretty toasty, which was good because then when we had to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night going outside actually felt nice :-P It was a long night, since Harpo was with us and RIGHT there he took full advantage of us at his beckon call and went out about three times in the night. Kids played in the snow first thing.

Then we built a fire and got breakfast going. We finally bought a camping stove, WHAT took us so long!? It was so nice just turning this one and heating up water for oatmeal and hot chocolate and getting the mocha pot going for espresso.

We hung around the cabin for the morning just relaxing and hanging out. Since the outdoor pit was covered in snow the wood we hauled from home was of no use. And also because of this we made s'mores inside!

Lots of hot chocolate was drank.

A little around lunch time we ate some food before heading out. Our plan was to drive to the nearby cities during the day. This first day we decided to go north west and explore the existing town of L'Anse.
We arrived at a little park on the shoreline of Lake Superior and I flew my drone after filling up our 3 gallon jugs of water that we'd already went through in one day (which was all I bought and the water well that was available was frozen)

There was a plaque talking about a ship that sunk offshore, we tried to fly the drone over to see if we could spot it. I made a video and will post when it's finished processing... but I think maybe you can see it in that video. Here are some photos but we don't think that's the shipwreck.

After some play time there we got in the car and drove up north along the shore to Point Abbaye. Even though it was only 25 miles the GPS said it'd take an hour. It did take about 45 minutes but then the last two miles to the point were walking only (which we didn't do) but explains the length of time on the GPS. The drive was beautiful. It was amazing to drive through the different types of trees and see the entire scenery change before our eyes.

I hopped out at one point to snap these photos.

Then we arrived at the point, or as far as our car would take us. We got out and the kids played over by the shore while I flew the drone.

The trees were gorgeous and you can really see the variety.

We drove back toward L'Anse and stopped at this place we had heard about in a YouTube video: they're infamous cinnamon rolls. We took it back to the cabin and split it 6 ways.

We got dinner going before dark, played some games, read some books, and got snuggled in our cozy WARM beds thanks to the fire. I had to get these precious photos of Isaac watching the fire with Harpo by his side.
