Christmas Tree Time

We put up the tree a few days ago, but since everyone was sick we were waiting to get the ornaments on. Everyone was feeling a bit better on Saturday (mostly - Emma is still feverish but managing well after she's had some ibuprofen) so we got the ornaments out. I quickly realized we're going to need a bigger tree for the family ornaments. The front tree I decorate myself and it has matching ornamental balls, but the back I let the kids decorate with all our family, meaningful ornaments.

Isaac getting some brother love in:

goofball

Thomas LOVES Isaac! He smiles so big as soon as he catches sight of Isaac.

We had read this book on candy from the library so we attempted to make some rock candy. The first batch didn't take which I could tell the first day so I ended up boiling in some more sugar. These sat for a while, longer than I remember them needing to sit. The kids kept asking when they could 'drink it'. They were excited it was time, so Saturday we took them out of the solution and hung them to dry. They ate them a couple hours later, but after a few bites declare "I'm done it's too hard, crunchy, and sticky" haha well that's sugar for you.

Christmas beginning Saturday

Last Saturday, December 2nd, we had a fun morning attending our realtor's holiday event. They had a Toys for Trees event. We brought a toy and got a real Christmas tree as well as lots of other fun stuff going on. It was out toward the Arboretum at a Camp Fire campground. It was a really nice day for it. We took a shuttle bus over to the campgrounds and had a waffle and sausage treat. Really like a cookie, the waffles were pretty hard. The kids got to play in the grass.

Then we went for a horse drawn hay ride.

More leaf playing while we waited in line to see Santa.

Kyle took our photo so we didn't have one of all six of us.

Emma was the only one to chat with Santa. Isaac said he didn't know what he wanted. Emma wants a pony :-P

That evening we came home and got the tree inside. I had a cookie party that evening. Here are two photos from earlier in the week when the kids helped me make cookies for the party.

This was the 13th annual cookie party, but I hadnt' been able to make it for maybe 6 years... since I had kids, haha. Thomas came with and was the star of the show.

The next day I got the tree lights on and decorated before we all got sick :-( Looking back I'm glad we got some fun stuff in that weekend because we were all down for the count (except Kyle, knock on wood) for over a week. Emma is still going with her Fever, Isaac's birthday party got postponed twice and missed 4 days of school, and the girls missed 3 days of school so far.

Thanksgiving break

Isaac was out of school on Wednesday so we made a trip to the library. The night before we had gone to get Isaac's haircut after school and run into Old Navy because he grew a few inches overnight and 3-4 pants suddenly became too short for him. While in Old Navy, Mary saw this vest and had to have it saying it was for swimming :-) Emma got one too, lol.

They had fun playing at the library.

They picked out quite the stack of books to check out then we headed home for lunch/naps. Kyle ended up having to work REALLY late, so we made a trip to Costco to pick up pumpkin pie for the next day and to eat dinner there, cuz it's easy! They had these under-wear sets on sale so I picked them up for the kids, I should go back to stock up on them since they were such a great deal. They had fun trying them on and dancing around in them, lol. Too cute.

Thanksgiving morning we got up, watched a little of the parade, had breakfast then headed to a friends for a low key morning. We had pizza and salad's with pumpkin pie for dessert. Our past month had been crazy so it was nice to not do much and the kids all played great together.

Thomas was excited to be out and about and didn't take a good nap. He took many cat naps and I realized I didn't get a photo of him at our friends' house. But here he is back at home and out for the count at bedtime. His first thanksgiving :-)

Friday was a gorgous day! We took that as a sign that we needed to get some yard work done so I hung the Christmas lights and Kyle did some leaf pick up. We also went for a walk/bike ride and walked to Yum! bakery for lunch. It felt so good to be out in such warm weather (ya know 50's)

I had to work Friday evening, but Saturday we took a trip to the Children's Museum.

We had our usual after-museum-lunch at Cosetta's then headed home for naps. We had Thanksgiving dinner (chicken instead of turkey) that evening with noodles and stuffing, followed by apple pie.

Sunday we took it easy, Kyle volunteered at church and we watched a lot of football per Isaac's request.
